Regardless of the existing conditions the final result will always be a beautiful reflection of the brand concept. The column in the center of the before image is the same as that behind the reception desk in the after picture. Visit here: http://www.mediterraneanfitness.net/
looking at this image of a gym...ask....what does this brand provide? This is a boxing gym...and a beautiful design of course. It however does absolutely nothing to reflect the spirit of boxing nor does it correlate with the name and brand it was designed to promote. This is the boutique design trend glorified across all of commerce and is an irrelevant aesthetic being sold to fitness entrepreneurs. Gym design is marketing first and the visual representation of what members will experience at your facility. If at all possible, your gym's interior should do two things. It should first telegraph in some way, energy, excitement or fitness, and second, reinforce your brand. Developers don't be seduced by this aesthetic or the sales pitch promoting it....it's a luxury trend that says nothing about fitness or a gym brand. #gymtrends #gymbranding #boxinggym www.fitnesscenterdesign.com Cuoco Black is a trusted and respected master fitness facility designer. www.fitnesscenterdesign.comhttps://twitter.com/#!/cuocoblack1 were so pumped, this will be the first of its kind conceptual gym design created on planet earth...TV show here we come American Global Ambassador For Fitness Facility Design #realitytv In our ongoing argument for branded gym design we continue to identify design faux pas which undermine a gym brand. We have time and again celebrated the David Barton aesthetic as the pinnacle of Boutique Gym Design, the best and brightest. Yet time and again, we find developers who are advised by design firms to embrace the boutique design aesthetic....that would be to the developer's disadvantage. It's obvious that the brand on the right (though beautiful,) is biting the Barton aesthetic. Perhaps the "intention is/was unintended" regardless, unless you're a fitness facility 1%-er avoid the Boutique Design aesthetic at all costs less you want to appear to be a Barton wanna-be. "A gym brand should NEVER be a wanna be....a gym brand should be an ONLY be" Cuoco Black The Read: The Barton target demographic is the luxury sector. The luxury demographic is a savvy consumer possessing a wide range of luxury product experience. Without reservation the luxury consumer will first identify the aesthetics of the gym on the right as Boutique Design, and second, reminiscent of the Barton style....which says nothing about their brand, and that alone should be reason enough to avoid the Boutique Design aesthetic. We have commented, time and again, on the design trends which undermine a gym brand. In this post we are revisiting the "Boutique Design Trend" which we believe is the single most popular aesthetic a club should avoid. What is Boutique Design? You know it when you see it because it's embraced across all of commerce. Boutique lighting fixtures and architectural minimalism adopted by McDonald's. This aesthetic is one of the common denominators in Boutique Design. What you should ask yourself is "does this aesthetic telegraph my brand?" The boutique reception desk is the darling of interior/architectural design firms. Angular geometry as minimalism...slick materials....it's very chic. What you should ask yourself is "does this aesthetic telegraph my brand?" Architecturally designed stone walls and architecturally designed planting. These elements are indifferent to commercial or residential design. Again, "does this aesthetic telegraph my brand?" "If the boutique design aesthetic is employed across all of industry and adopted in your facility, it says nothing about your brand other than it being part of the boutique design trend." Everyone knows the drill... market your club using traditional advertising mediums of print, radio and now social media. Getting eyes on your brand is the name of the game and what better way to do so then by going with a BIG idea and a marketing campaign to promote your facility. The Source Fitness center in ST Clairsville Ohio is capitalizing on their "Superhero" logo and promoting their opening as a Hollywood extravaganza initiated with a movie poster themed social media post (image below). It's brilliant for sure, but what lies ahead is is a "Red Carpet" advertising campaign for their fall grand opening complete with search lights, limousines, and yes, the red carpet.
