Helping gyms navigate the aesthetics in gym design is one of our ongoing missions. We have commented, time and again, on the design trends which undermine a gym brand. In this post we are revisiting the "Boutique Design Trend" which we believe is the single most popular aesthetic a club should avoid. What is Boutique Design? You know it when you see it because it's embraced across all of commerce.

Boutique lighting fixtures and architectural minimalism adopted by McDonald's. This aesthetic is one of the common denominators in Boutique Design. What you should ask yourself is "does this aesthetic telegraph my brand?"

The boutique reception desk is the darling of interior/architectural design firms. Angular geometry as minimalism...slick materials....it's very chic. What you should ask yourself is "does this aesthetic telegraph my brand?"

Architecturally designed stone walls and architecturally designed planting. These elements are indifferent to commercial or residential design. Again, "does this aesthetic telegraph my brand?"

Everyone knows the drill... market your club using traditional advertising mediums of print, radio and now social media. Getting eyes on your brand is the name of the game and what better way to do so then by going with a BIG idea and a marketing campaign to promote your facility. The Source Fitness center in ST Clairsville Ohio is capitalizing on their "Superhero" logo and promoting their opening as a Hollywood extravaganza initiated with a movie poster themed social media post (image below). It's brilliant for sure, but what lies ahead is is a "Red Carpet" advertising campaign for their fall grand opening complete with search lights, limousines, and yes, the red carpet.
